Programs overview

  • The RCH Simulation team facilitate both half day and full day courses, in addition toÌýsupportingÌýdepartmental shorter simulation sessions.ÌýOur courses and programs have been categorised intoÌýfourÌýareas:Ìý

    Deteriorating Patient Programs: Ìý ÌýÌý

°Õ³ó±ðÌýDeteriorating PatientÌýsimulation sessionsÌýfocus onÌýtraining teams to understandÌýhow human factors influence our ability to work as a team inÌýchallengingÌýsituations. ParticipantsÌýhave the opportunity toÌýpractice these principles with Inter-professional simulated scenarios, each one followed by a debrief and discussion to explore the team performance.Ìý Longer programs may include technical and communication skills workshops to complement learnings with the simulated scenarios.Ìý

    Communication Programs:Ìý

°Õ³ó±ðÌý RCH Communication ProgramÌýfocus on training healthcare workers on key communication strategies to utilise duringÌýcomplex conversations between colleagues, patients, and their families.ÌýÌýParticipantsÌýhave the opportunity toÌýattend the workshop followed byÌýcoachingÌýthrough case scenariosÌýrelevant to the communication strategy.Ìý Additionally, for some programs,ÌýparticipantsÌýare able toÌýpractise their communication learnings with actors during a simulated scenarioÌýfollowing the workshop and coaching sessions.Ìý

The RCHÌýSimulation Train the Trainer Program:

The RCHÌýSimulation Train the Trainer Program focuses on training healthcare workers toÌýunderstand the basis of simulation-based education andÌýutilise all facets of simulation as an educational tool.Ìý The first day focuses on simulation methodology and developing and designing simulation sessions and scenarios whilst the secondÌýdayÌýfocuses on training in debriefing, utilisingÌýdebriefÌýtechniques from theÌýHarvard Centre for Medical Simulation in addition to other methods of debriefing.Ìý

    SkillsÌýTrainingÌý

The RCH Simulation Team have developed many relevant to the varied practical needs across departments, such as the Advanced Life Support Defibrillation package and Intraosseous insertion. In addition, we have worked with educators across the hospital to develop other skills packages which have since been incorporated into departmental training.Ìý Please feel free to contact us atÌýsimulation@rch.org.auÌýto assist in developing skills packages related to the needs of your department.
